This is the agreement

These terms are a contract between you and the maker of Nook (“Nook”, “we”, “us”) — the browser extension and the website at this domain, together the Service. Installing the extension, creating an account or using any part of the Service means you accept them. If you do not, do not install it, and remove it if you already have.

Our Privacy Policy explains what data the Service handles. It forms part of this agreement.

Your account

You sign in with Google. We do not issue or store a password for you, and we never ask for your Google password — nobody from Nook ever will, including anyone claiming to be support.

Age

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age at which you can use online services without a parent's consent where you live, whichever is higher. To turn on the Adult category you must be at least 18 — see clause 04.

You are responsible for the account

Keep your Google account secure and your device locked. Activity under your account is treated as yours. Tell us promptly at the contact page if you believe someone else has access.

The PIN is a curtain, not a vault door

The quick-open PIN keeps the panel from opening in front of someone glancing at your screen. It is kept in your browser's settings sync — so the same PIN works on every browser you sign in to — and it is never sent to our servers. It is not a second factor, it is not hashed, and it does not encrypt anything. Somebody with your unlocked computer and your Google session can reach your saved sites without it. Do not treat it as protection against a determined person with physical access.

What Nook actually does

Stated plainly, so there is no confusion about what you are agreeing to:

• It saves addresses you choose. A saved entry is a URL, a title, and the artwork the site itself publishes. Nook does not copy, mirror or store the pages behind those addresses.
• It cleans up after those addresses. When a tab you opened from Nook closes, the extension asks your browser to delete that page's history entry and the cached data, cookies and local storage for that site. Nothing else in your browser is touched.
• It stays quiet, but it does not hide. Nook adds no badge, counter or notification while you work. It does, however, appear under its own name in your browser's extension list, and we make no claim that its presence is concealed or undetectable.
• Discover is a suggestion shelf. Some entries on it are paid placements, and those are labelled Sponsored. We do not run or control the sites listed there.

Adult material

Nook can be used to save any lawful website, and that includes sites intended for adults. Because of that, this clause is more specific than the rest.

We are a bookmark tool, not a publisher

Nook does not produce, host, stream, sell or supply adult content. It stores addresses that you choose to save, in the same way a browser bookmark does. Any material you reach is supplied by the website you visit, under that website's own terms, and we have no relationship with or control over it.

18+ only, and off by default

• The Adult category is hidden when you install Nook. It appears only after you deliberately switch it on.
• By switching it on you confirm you are at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, and that adult material is lawful for you to view there.
• If a minor has access to your device or your account, do not enable it. You are responsible for that choice.

No adult imagery in the interface

Entries in the Adult category never display a site's own preview image anywhere in Nook. They are drawn with a plain tile and the site's favicon instead. This applies whether or not you have the category switched on, and you cannot turn it off.

Also not permitted

• Non-consensual intimate imagery, including material published without the subject's consent.
• Content depicting or promoting sexual violence, coercion, trafficking or bestiality.
• Any material that is illegal to possess or access where you are.

Sponsored adult listings

Where an adult site appears in Discover as a paid placement, we require the advertiser to confirm it is lawfully operated and age-gated. That is a commercial assurance from them, not an endorsement or a verification by us. If you believe something listed in Discover breaches this clause, report it through the contact page and we will review it.

Local law is your responsibility

Adult material is restricted or prohibited in a number of countries. You are responsible for knowing and obeying the law where you are. Using Nook does not make anything lawful that would not otherwise be.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Nook to:

• Break the law, or help anyone else break it.
• Conceal activity from someone legally entitled to supervise it — a court order, a probation condition, a workplace or school policy you are bound by, or a parent's oversight of a minor.
• Monitor, deceive or stalk another person, or install the extension on someone else's device without them knowing.
• Access accounts, systems or content you are not authorised to reach.
• Resell, sublicense or rent the Service, or pass off any part of it as your own.
• Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract source code, except to the extent the law says you may.
• Probe, scrape, overload or interfere with our servers, or work around rate limits, quotas or the free-plan cap.
• Automate account creation, or hold more than one account to obtain extra free trials or referral rewards.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches this clause, and where the breach is serious or unlawful we may do so without warning.

Plans, trials and billing

Free

The free plan holds up to five saved sites and includes trace-clearing on close, the double-Esc rapid hide, and the idle panel lock. It is free indefinitely; we are not obliged to keep any particular feature free forever, but we will not quietly start charging for something you already have.

Nook Plus

$3.99 per month, billed by Stripe, after a 7-day free trial. The trial runs once per person. You will need to provide a payment method to start it, and unless you cancel before it ends the subscription begins automatically and the first month is charged.

Cancelling and refunds

• Cancel any time from Account → Manage, which opens Stripe's billing portal.
• Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Plus features until the end of the period you already paid for.
• We do not automatically refund part-used months. If something went genuinely wrong — a double charge, a failed feature, a renewal you tried to stop — write in and we will sort it out.
• Statutory refund and cooling-off rights where you live are not affected by anything in this clause.

If you drop back to Free

Sites above the five-site cap are hidden, not deleted. Your five earliest entries stay visible, the rest wait quietly and reappear the moment you subscribe again.

Price changes and taxes

Prices are in US dollars and may exclude tax, which Stripe adds where it applies. If we change the price of an existing subscription we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel before then.

Referrals and partner programmes

Creators can apply for a referral code. People who use it get a 15% discount, and the creator earns a commission on the first payment those people actually make. Sponsored placements in Discover are arranged separately.

• Commission is earned on cleared payments only, and is reversed if the payment is refunded or charged back.
• You may not use your own code, create accounts to earn on yourself, or promote Nook through spam, misleading claims, malware bundles, or unsolicited messages.
• Sponsored entries in Discover are labelled. We may decline or remove any placement, and we do not accept sponsorship that would breach clause 04 or 05.
• We may adjust rates or close a programme with reasonable notice. Commission already earned and cleared is not taken back.

Who owns what

The Service, its code, name, logo and design are ours. You get a personal, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the extension for your own purposes while you comply with these terms. Nothing else transfers.

Your saved sites, categories and settings remain yours. We do not claim ownership of them and we do not sell them. We store and process them only to run the Service for you, as set out in the Privacy Policy.

If you send us feedback or a feature idea, we may build it without owing you anything for it. That is not us claiming your ideas — it is so a good suggestion does not become a legal problem.

No warranty

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every trace will be cleared in every circumstance. Browsers change, extensions get disabled, sync fails, servers go down.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow this, in which case the exclusions apply only as far as they legally can.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for loss of data, profit, reputation, or the consequences of someone discovering what you were browsing.

Our total liability arising out of the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including death or personal injury caused by negligence, and fraud.

Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time: cancel any subscription, remove the extension, and ask us to delete your account through the contact page. Deletion removes your saved sites, close history and settings from our servers, as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Where we shut the Service down by choice, we will give reasonable notice and refund any unused prepaid time.

Clauses 08 to 10 survive the end of this agreement.

Changes, and the legal small print

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top always shows the version in force. For changes that materially reduce your rights, we will ask you to accept the new version the next time you open the extension, and we will not apply them retroactively.

Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], and the courts of [JURISDICTION] have exclusive jurisdiction, except where consumer protection law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.

The rest

• If any clause is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
• Not enforcing something once does not waive it.
• You may not transfer this agreement; we may transfer it if the Service changes hands, on notice to you.
• These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us about the Service.
